I fell in love with cruising—and how easy it makes discovering the most spellbinding destinations—while working for Viking Cruises as a cruise consultant for seven years. I planned cruise escapes all over the world for thousands of clients, and I loved nothing more than having my clients call me right after their trip ready to book the next one. 

 

Luxury cruising is simply addictive—which I learned firsthand when my wife and I embarked on our first river cruise down the Danube. We were in total awe as we rolled past the magnificent Parliament Building in Budapest, with its spires reaching toward the sky. At each destination, we got to soak in the sights from the best vantage point possible: from the water.

And while we’ve planned our own land-based journeys, we always return to cruising. Why? Because nothing beats the goosebumps you get when you find yourself gazing up at the castles that dot the hills along the Rhine, or when you dock right in front of the glittering Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco, half expecting James Bond to come sauntering down the steps.
